What’s driving you?

What is it that gets you out of bed each day absolutely determined to make the most of it?

Anything?

It’s changed for me over the years.

But one of the things that drives me to do what I do is having the ability to travel.

I LOVE it.

It excites me.

I love films that take you from one country to the next – James Bond, Jason Bourne, – if I wasn’t doing what I do now I would definitely be working for MI6…….yep definitely.

Back in the day when I was growing up our holidays were mainly in Devon or Hunstanton in a caravan. As a kid I still loved it, crabbing and cockles but as I got older and my friends went away on aeroplanes this time of year I used to have a little envy.

My only time abroad before I was 18 was to France.

But it wasn’t until I was 26 that I really worked up an appetite for travel – myself and my wife Alex left our jobs, rented our house out and pissed off for 12 months to India, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Cambodia.

[Bit crazy at the time as we were settled in our jobs and had just bought a house together, but you only live once right?]

This opened up my eyes to the World – different countries, cuisines, and cultures.
Man, this place is BIG.

Whilst we were away I sat up one night getting drunk on cheap local beer, and talking about starting and growing different companies from overseas – living abroad and travelling frequently.

Silly ‘back-packer’ talk.
But it’s nice to have dreams.

In fact when we took that year out it was nice to feel like a kid again. No real responsibilities. Living on a shoestring but making lifelong friends and having lots of fun.

Back to present day.

In the last 7 months we have been to Thailand, Australia, Portugal, and Russia. and myself and Alex fly to New York next month.

This is while growing our businesses from the South of Spain.

We are showing our kids that the World is a big place full of opportunity. They are starting to understand this as their closest friends are from Belgium, Holland, India, Spain, Ireland and Croatia.

May be crazy ideas do come true.

Technology allows us to do this now easier than ever.

Read the 4 hour work week and embrace Tim Ferris’s philosophy – that book is over 10 years old now.

You don’t have to ‘conform’

Who says you have to live where you live?

Who says you have to live within 20 minutes of the gym you run?
Who says you have to do things the way you do them every day – just because you’ve always done them that way?

Why not be a bit daring.

Is it easy? – of course it isn’t. If it was everyone would bloody do it.

For us trying to continue opening new gyms whilst we live out here is incredibly challenging but we’re doing it anyway.

Go on Set some really silly goals.
Then stick a date on it.

eg. live and work from my laptop in Thailand for a few years by 18th July 2020.
Then book a trip to Thailand to go on holiday. Check it out. Bring the dream to life.

Then get to work.

What do you have to do in order to make this happen?

– and get a bit of help along the way.

I appreciate that most reading this like to conform.

That little voice in their head will just say “you can’t do that because……..” – [fill in the blank]

However there will be a few reading this that will think

“Do you know what, this dude is making sense – I’d love to be a bit more adventurous and do something like this”
