It turned out that many of them had grown their businesses exponentially by offering a bootcamp service. So if it worked for them it could work for me right?
I wanted to offer something different though. I really wanted to be able to bridge this gap that exists between your standard gym membership (that we all know only works for around 5% of members and costs £20 – £60 per month) and one to one training (that we know works really well and costs £20-£60 per session).
So I really personalised our bootcamp by offering nutritional guidance and weekly monitoring of weight and body fat %. This has proven to be one of the best things that I could have done. The results of having this accountability structure in place for our clients has worked really well.
This also means that we were able to charge more than your standard gym and most of our competitors.
Just do the maths on this with as well and you will see that this really does work:
If you charge £40 per session of one to one training you probably charge more than most PTs around the country. But lets run with that for now.
Let’s now assume that you have 10 people in your bootcamp sessions (we now have between 20 and 30) and they pay £79 per month for 3 sessions per week. So this works out at around £6.50 per session per person.
So if you have 10 in your bootcamp, you’re earning around £65 per session. If you have 20, then you’re earning around £130 per session.
Once you understand the power of leveraging your time like this and being able to serve more people within the same time, you can really understand how this model can work so well. It’s still only a 45 minute session, but you’re earned over 3 times as much money!! Anyone fancy a 300% increase in salary?

Thanks Cristian. Good luck with starting out. Exciting times ahead. Your feedback is appreciated.
Hi Ricky,
Great post! Do you actively advertise that you offer weekly monitoring of weight and body fat?
This is something I’m in the process of adding to my business.
Also, how did you go about getting your website towards the top of Google for your chosen keywords?
Enjoying your posts! Thank you for the advice
Hi James, yes absolutely. It makes us stand out ahead of others that don’t monitor weight and body fat. Although we don’t do body fat weekly – every 3-4 weeks.
Weight is an option that can be done weekly.
Re. getting to the top of google. Here are a couple of tips:
make sure you have a wordpress site.
get a wordpress seo plugin
make sure you put your keywords into the plugin for each post that you do
write regular blogs with your keywords in there (x2 per week)
share those posts with your audience – through facebook page etc.
Also use youtube (as google own youtube). So upload videos with the keywords Personal trainer (your area) on a regular basis, or bootcamp (you area). I have videos that appear top for both of those searches in my area of northampton.
