Yep! Absolutely. There are a couple of caveats though. First of all you need to be completely clear on exactly who your target market is. This can very often be a painful exercise for PTs because many just want to train anyone and everyone.
Now one of the first things that I learnt was the importance of having a niche. Something as important as your marketing can then be written and constructed in such a way that is specifically for your target market. What’s the point in trying to appeal to everyone?
If you do this then you will just start competing with gyms (as they cater for everyone) and then price becomes a big issue. When I started my PT business, I specifically chose to make it ‘women only’. I recognised that there is a great demand for women to lose fat and change their body composition and most prefer not to train in an intimidating gym.
So straight away by doing this I am excluding all of the men from my marketing and I am excluding women that are already super fit. I only want to deal with women that have a real hunger and desire to change their body composition. Get back the body that they once had.
This tends to be Mums between the ages of 22 and 50. So, back to getting page likes. I specifically target the above types of women for my page.
I don’t want blokes liking my page and I don’t want 18 year old girls liking my page, so my advert does not get shown to them. When my target market starts liking my page then the posts and the videos that I put up there will start to resonate with them a lot more. So they will keep coming back for more.
The other good thing is that I can then specifically only market my services to those that have liked my page. I can start sending them to my optin page so that I start collecting their email addresses as well which means I can then communicate with them through another medium.
I’ve just started a new campaign to drive facebook fans to my page this last week. Check out the video below to see how it’s performing in the first 5 days – 158 likes so far as I was just testing it out. I’m now going to increase my daily spend from $2 to $10 as it seems to be performing pretty well.
Check out the video below which shows how well it’s doing.

Quick update to this video above. Just 3 days later since posting, I have more than doubled those likes to my FB page:
