In September 2013 I made the decision that I
would try to start earning some of this
‘passive income’ that all of these successful fitness
professionals seem to be talking about.
So I started to research a ‘starving crowd’ and jot
down a few ideas for a product.
I even made a couple of videos and started
writing an ebook.
It felt good to be taking some action towards this
goal of mine. Then before I knew it….
……it was January 2014 and I was no further forward.
5 months had gone by without me having anything other
than 3 chapters of an ebook and half a dozen videos filmed.
Hardly a success!!
Kids, wife, business, Christmas etc – all of this stuff just got
in the way.
So, February 1st ( I remember because it is my Dad’s birthday)
I did the one thing that I knew would work as had worked for
me in the past.
I found someone that had produced the RESULT that I wanted
and then invested in their online guidance and mentoring
programme.
It was a steep learning curve and all of those other distractions
were still there but I had made a commitment (financially, publicly
and mentally) that I would get this done.
Fast forward to 30th April 2014:
This was the ‘early bird’ launch of my online product the KB4-20
Home Kettlebell Programme for women.
20 minute high calorie torching workouts for women to do from home.
Check out the image below.
I was very proud of what I had produced. …….but would it sell?
It’s all very well producing the product but there was always those niggling doubts – what if no one buys it? what if those that buy it hate it? what if this was just a huge waste of time?
I’ll admit that I was a little bit nervous but I felt I had followed the right plan and had stuck to the date that I had publicly declared (even though this meant a few stressful late nights in that final few days!)
I remember waking up on that morning of 30th April, trying to play it cool. I got the kids up, had a shower, had some breakfast and then the suspense got the better of me. I had to check my phone to see if any sales had come in. I was then greeted with the following:
I couldn’t believe it.
I had orders coming in from all over the World – UK, America, South Africa, Canada, Australia. This was mental and way beyond what I was expecting.
The KB4-20 is still going strong today, but on the back of this success I thought I would then create another online product – the membership site PT100k Club.
This was launched in July 2014, just a few months later.
Once again, I followed the same blueprint and had immediate success:
Once again the PT100K Club, is doing great.
One thing that I have learnt from regarding the PT100K Club though is that I shouldn’t just accept anyone in. I did this at first, but some characters have been more of a hindrance in the group. You see the group benefits from a private Facebook Members Only page which is a great resource for the trainers to help each other out – show support to one another and share ideas that are working for them from the videos that are included. When members join with a negative attitude and disruptive influence it spoils the group dynamic. Now membership is application only.
It’s all about learning.
Probably the best advice I can offer other trainers that are thinking of launching an online product is that you shouldn’t expect it to be perfect. Set yourself a date that you want to complete it by. Let your potential market know this by declaring the date publicly and then move forward in getting it done.
If I can do this then so can you.
Ricky
ps. if you fancy finding out how I went about producing my fitness product, finding the right market, building a responsive list and then marketing it (along with tons of advice on facebook marketing videos) then you can apply to join the PT100K Club just here – no disruptive, negative influencers though!

Hi Ricky, I have been qualified now for almost 3 years and have worked in a couple of local gyms. To be completely honest although I picked up a fair few clients, I have been using myself as a guinea pig to find what works for me on a trial and error basis. I don’t have a website and am a self confessed technophobe! Although I am more than willing to learn! I really would like an online PT and Nutrition business and the reason is that I have 3 children, dogs etc and do find it hard to work around that, so “working from home” for me would be a real bonus! Is this something you could help me with? Any guidance would be much appreciated. Kind regards Catherine
Hi Catherine. It’s the exact same reason that I am doing more online stuff now. My two are 6 and 8 and my remit over the last couple of years has been to create a business that allows me to see as much of them (and my wife) as possible.
So, yes it is something that I can help with.
You might be interested in an online product creation course that I started last Friday. Funny enough there are 2 other women on it that are looking at creating online/ nutrition products as well.
All details are on the page once you click on the link below.
It’s a 4 week course (and after each webinar I let you have the full recording within 24 hours), so you will have the lot to keep.
If it is something of interest and you missed the first LIVE webinar then I would let you join now, receive the first recording straight away and then pick up with everyone else for the next 3 – you could also take advantage of the fast action bonus (that expired on 21st November)
