It still amazes me at how many Personal Trainers don’t have their own blog. When I ask the question as to why there are some common answers:
– I don’t have the time to write
– I don’t know how to write professionally
– I don’t know what to write about
– I don’t understand the technical side of writing online
– What’s the point, if no one reads what I write?
My response to all of these is to just do it. Just get on with it. In this article I will outline the 3 main benefits of having a blog and then I will be following this up with the formula that I use to get articles done.
Main Benefits:
1) Positions you an expert within your niche – Once you are totally clear on who your target market is, then start writing about stuff that they want to know about. If it’s fat loss for Mums then write about the common problems that Mums face when trying to lose weight. It won’t take long before you have a small tribe of loyal followers that are genuinely interested in what you have to say.
I receive at least 3 emails each week from local women that are on my email list thanking me for keeping them updated with fat loss tips. They actually look forward to receiving my emails. They have grown to trust me. When the time is right, and they decide that they want to see a PT, who do you think they’re going to go to?
I am the local expert that has the answers to their problems.
2) Google like blogs – a regularly updated blog that communicates with your market full of keywords that your market then searches for will do wanders for where you feature on google. If you type in ‘personal trainer northampton’ or ‘bootcamp northampton’ I will always be within the top 3 organic search results. As a result of this, I receive a ton of leads every single week without having to pay for them.
It takes a little while to get there, but a regularly updated blog will fast track you right to the top!
3) Local media like blogs – here’s a great little tip. Find the email address of a couple of your local journalists that write stuff about health and fitness and then email them copies of your articles. Be very pleasant about it and introduce yourself properly about who you are and what you do and then just keep them updated.
Again, once they grow to trust you and the fact that you produce quality content it won’t take long before they will be calling on you to contribute in some way.
I have been on BBC Radio and had ITV come and film us at our unit as a result of doing this. It works.
The second part to this article is to follow which covers off my formula that I use for successful blog writing. It tackles all of those objections mentioned at the beginning.
Until then,
Ricky
